Dimitris Gioulekas

 

(Emeritus) Professor in Pulmonary and Respiratory Medicine


Professor Dimitris Gkioulekas was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. He studied Medicine at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Μαinz in Germany and at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from where he graduated in1968.

In 1974 he completed his residency in the Specialty of Pulmonary Medicine at the "George Papanikolaou” Hospital, in the Department of Respiratory Diseases of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

During 1975-1976, he was further specialized in Allergy and Airway diseases in Germany, at the Karl-Hansen Klinik.

In 1977, he finished his PhD Thesis at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, entitled: "The clinical significance of Post-tuberculosis injuries of the tracheobronchial tree".

In 1978, he became a lecturer in the Medical school of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki at the department of Respiratory Diseases at the "George Papanikolaou" Hospital. He was an active member and a great teacher for Medical students during all years of his practicing medicine. He was an inspirable teacher for Residents training of Pulmonary and Respiratory Medicine and an active collaborator in training programs of other medical specialties.

Prof. Gkioulekas retired in 2010 and he was honored with the title of Emeritus Professor of Pulmonary Medicine in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

His clinical practice encompasses all the fields of his specialty, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, infectious diseases of the lungs, tuberculosis, lung cancer, interstitial lung diseases, sleep related disorders etc. However his main sup -specialization is in Asthma and Allergy related pulmonary disorders, during all the years of his clinical practice.

Prof. Gkioulekas practices Pulmonary Medicine at his private office ever since he first started his career as a doctor.

He has participated in more than 150 conferences as a chairman and/or speaker. Furthermore, he has 138 publications both in Greek and international medical journals. He is the author of 3 special medical books and plenty of chapters in different medical textbooks.

He has organized and participated in many interviews on television or in radio and in several journals and newspapers.

Dimitris Gkioulekas is married to Anny Papathanasiou and has two children, Paschalina Gkiouleka, a specialist in Pulmonary medicine and Phd at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in "Obesity and Asthma", and George Gkioulekas resident of General Surgery.

Specialist in Pulmonary and Respiratory medicine


Dr. Paschalina Gkiouleka was born in Thessaloniki, Greece.

She studied Medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from where She graduated in 2005, with grade "Very good".

From 2005 to 2006 worked as Visiting Physician in the 5th Pulmonary Department of the "SOTHRIA" Hospital in Athens (Director Ms. N. Georgatou).

2006-2008, she worked as scientific medical Assistant in the 2nd Pulmonary Clinic of the University of Athens in Attikon Hospital. (Director Mr. S. Papiris). During this time she drew up her PhD Thesis.

2008-2013 she works at the "George Papanikolaou" Hospital, in the Department of Respiratory Diseases of the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, where she completed his residency in the Specialty of Pulmonary Medicine and received after exams the Specialty of Pulmonary Medicine (February 2014).

In 2014, She finished his Phd Thesis, at the University of Athens, entitled "Obesity and Asthma" and received a PhD (June 2014).

In 2013 for three months and in 2014 for three months, she also attended special courses at the University of Chicago (Medical department), for specialization in obstructive Diseases of the Lung and in smoking Cessation methods.

Since the beginning of 2015 until today, she is working as a University Fellow in the 2nd Pulmonary Clinic of the University of Athens in Attikon Hospital.
